After earning her Master’s in Educational Media, Christine Gilardi (aka Mama Christy) found herself living in Connecticut and producing videos for the US Navy Submarine Fleet. It wasn’t long before she felt a new life beckoning her to California. In 1997 she followed her instincts and made her way west, and she’s called San Diego “home” ever since.

Christine has built her career as a solo artist, but she’s been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with many bands along the way, both on stage and in the studio. Of note is her 2013 work with The Bones – Las Vegas, when she sang on their 2013 album “What Would Ginger Do?”

Her powerhouse voice has been likened to Grace Slick, Sheryl Crow, and Melissa Etheridge, and her band DarZana was compared with Tom Petty and Rush. Gilardi ‘s original music is infused spiritual messages and her performances will bring you to your feet, or to tears, or both. She gained national acclaim when the 2013 Posi-Fest awarded her song “I Believe in Love” with Honorable Mention.

Gilardi’s straight-ahead rock arrangements, infused with positive messages, are common threads throughout her songs. She is an improvisational songwriter and a featured Blues Jam Performer at the SD House of Blues and other area venues. She and her band CHRISTINA regularly appear at Patrick’s Gaslamp Pub where she sings rock, blues, funk, reggae, and R&B.

Currently Christine is producing a song for Tanya Brown’s 2014 National Mental Health & Wellness Summer Summit, which honors twenty-year anniversary of the passing of Nicole Brown Simpson. The event is in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She has also teamed up with award winning singer-songwriter Lacy Younger to form a duo. They were honored to perform the 2014 Temecula International Film & Music Festival, as one of only ten acts selected from thousands of entries.

After spending years healing and shedding over 130 pounds, Christine’s story has swept through the San Diego music scene, bringing love and inspiration to her peers and fans alike. Christine enjoys Kirtan and Devotional Chanting, in Sanskrit and English, as well as playing djembe and hand drums. She also speaks Italian semi-fluently and has aspirations of working with a fellow songwriter in Dubai.
